The ongoing project concerns the Borgoforte Bridge (1961) on the former SS 62 “della Cisa” at km 168+700, a strategic crossing of the Po River near the town of Borgoforte. The goal is to restore the infrastructure to a condition of structural reliability and long‑term durability, repairing deteriorated parts and improving the overall behavior of the bridge–viaduct system. The site works on a complex structure, spanning floodplain and riverbed sections, where every technical choice must “dialogue” with the hydraulic context and the continuity of the road connection.

The technical core of the intervention is the strengthening of the riverbed pier (pier 30) through supplemental piles and new connecting crossbeams, with jacking and preloading procedures to control load transfers and support response over time; all supported by additional geognostic investigations (deep borings and in‑situ/laboratory tests) to calibrate reinforcements to actual subsoil conditions. In parallel, surface repairs and protections are carried out to increase resistance to degrading agents, seismic improvement works on the Motteggiana viaduct (rebar tying and section enlargements, replacement of bearings with reinforced elastomeric ones), and upgrades to the deck drainage system to reduce recurring causes of deterioration and improve safety and performance.
